Sculpted Prim Plug-in - oort - 11-09-2012

I did not write the Sculpted Prim Plug-in. I only compiled it on Wings 1.3.0.1.

It still works on Wings 1.4.1 Version. If it doesn't work on a future release let me know and I can recompile and upload new files.

The files are on my Wings3d Page... Sculpted Prim Plug-in

Here is some history on my build in the old forum... Old Forum Thread

Emit,
If you are using Windows 7 or newer, it may be an issue with permissions to the folder. You could try manually copying the plugin to the folder (C:\Program Files (x86)\wings3d_1.4.1\lib\wings-1.4.1\plugins\import_export)

You could try exporting your models as Collada files and avoid the troubles of modeling sculpted prims. I think that Second Life now supports Collada files.

thank you it seem to work now

RE: Sculpted Prim Plug-in - The Emit - 10-03-2015

when i try to export (save) the model (file) all i get is an error saying 'Unsupported mesh size'. So i have to reduce the size. Who do i do that, and what is the best size for Second Life.

RE: Sculpted Prim Plug-in - oort - 10-04-2015

Emit,
It has been years since I have tried making sculpted prims. They have to be made from a mesh that has a certain number of faces. I think they have to have uv mapping as well. There used to be templates out on the web somewhere. Here is a page that gives some information, but the links to the templates no longer work...Secondlife Wiki Wings 3D Exporter

The following info is at the bottom of the page:

"Beware, though, that Wings will easily shift from the (commonly used) Export to the (rarely used) Export Selected if your mouse passes over the Export Selected line as you move to the Export sub-menu. If exporting gives you an "Unsupported mesh size" error when you know your mesh is OK, it's probably because you executed Export Selected by mistake."

I think that if your mesh has too many or not enough faces you will get the same error message.

Creating sculpted prims takes lots of patience. I had the patience to create one or two and that was about it... Sad

I just checked and I still have old sculpted prim templates on my computer. Let me know if you cannot find the templates. I can put them on my website...

RE: Sculpted Prim Plug-in - Shellybelle05 - 05-18-2016

I have the latest version of Wings 3D and downloaded the plugin, as I wish to export the models I create into a format that is compatible with uploading for secondlife and other virtual worlds. I installed the plugin and it does not work. Sad

RE: Sculpted Prim Plug-in - oort - 05-18-2016

Shellybelle,
Sorry but this plugin will not work with 2.0 and newer versions of Wings3D. It would require a rewrite to work with the newer versions of Wings3D.

You can still have an old version and a new version of Wings3D on your system. You could use the old version for making sculpted prims and the newer version for everything else.

Try creating models the regular way instead of creating prim models. And then use Collada (.dae) as an export format. I know that OpenSim supports them. Surely Secondlife supports them by now??? It is much easier than creating prims. I guess there may be advantages to prims but I am not sure if it would be worth the time to update the plugin. If there is enough demand for that maybe it could happen. I don't know that I would have time for that... Sad

Hi Oort, yes, Second Life has been able to accept .dae files since before OpenSim could (OS is about 2 years behind SL in all new developments), but there are instances when a sculpt is still preferable to mesh. Large mesh models (e.g. rough terrain) create a huge land impact whereas the same model as a 1-prim sculpt has only 1 land impact. That's my experience anyway.

I've had the same problem with trying to sculpt with Wings3D as other people on this thread: "unsupported mesh size". This happens with 1.4.1 as well as newer versions, but I'll take your suggestion to experiment with the number of faces.
You mentioned that you'd put sculpt templates on your site. I'm looking there but I don't see them. Thanks for your time Smile
