that was awesome :-)

Yaak , Rig up something cool model wise ... and
I'll try it. Let's toss everything at it (BOOLEANS) but kitchen sink.

I have to revisit other approaches as part of "SANITY TESTING" and just general retesting (stream of consciousness testing too). This is how I got back to PLANE-CUT.

RE: Boolean operations? - yaak - 04-08-2013

You are right, I just discovered I'm missing an important Boolean addon, I stopped your video at 2:40min, where Boolean operations ... is the 1st item on the list. I don't have that new tar file. Please point me to it?
thanks!

In the mean time don't throw out the baby with the bath water! ... Smile

You are a MAC user Yaak ? Please advise.
Even if your release of BOOLEANS is arranged differently ... you should be able to USE it as shown in video.
That much I know about the last Mac release.

I have an Ipad but I don't think your program runs on an Ipad Smile
I don't have the the next pic on your video either 2:42min shows the dialog screen with the following:

Union
Subtract
Intersect
Subtraction ++
Difference
Volume Information

I'm running win7 x64

I just looked up my forum reference to the last tar file I installed on my computer
http://www.wings3d.com/forum/showthread.php?tid=272

that tar file does not contain any union.....subtract.. etc. etc. stuff

RE: Boolean operations? - yaak - 04-08-2013

I should be paying more attention Sad latest file is at the btm. of the list ... NOT the top of the list Blush

RE: Boolean operations? - ggaliens - 04-08-2013

The tar file does contained the required functionality ... just accessed differently. But since you can now use the latest snapshot ... let me procratinate on the date for my next Boolean tarball.

RE: Boolean operations? - yaak - 04-08-2013

I still have not been able replicate your video example Sad There is some time lag obviously between the Boolean initiation and the Final subtraction. I don't have any input of how long this Boolean operation takes to complete. Each time I try to see if the operation is complete ........boom! the geometry disappears totally from the 3d window, No geometry remains either in the Geometry Graph window.

I'm wondering if a time to completion display bar could be incorporated in the information line, so the user can see how long the Boolean process is going to take?

RE: Boolean operations? - ggaliens - 04-08-2013

The only way I could see a "time" to complete estimate working for Booleans would be some kind of HUERISTIC based on lots an lots of trials ... but that would be playing with fire. Else actually bringing in CarveCSG as a DLL driver into wings3D to get an imporved "interactivity". But that's not happening either. I just don't have the time.

But I got time for DROPBOX !!!! Send me a sample model. Let's got on exact same page with wings version and also model. That is the way to gain understanding of each others perspective.

I'm working on that, I also have a Free 5GB Google Drive, I will drop you a link shortly

I had success, .... finally! I think some of my confusion with Boolean Operations is derived from what I see
in the Geometry Graph window, which has nothing to do with how the Boolean Subtraction works.
a simple example, is still as westek illustrated .

1. R click on workspace selected the Cube
2. R click on workspace selected the Torus
3. select the cube
4. R click on workspace and select "Lots more" select "Boolean Operations"
5. click Subtract
6. L click on Torus
7. R click to execute

I'm still thinking out loud, if the Geometry Graph Window might be put to better use in guiding Boolean operations, other than memorizing a 7 step procedure?

This cube lattice has some small errors, in the geometry, can I use Wings3d to edit and cleanup these errors?
Can I make the voronoi holes more organically rounded?
