[ignored] Wings 2.0 64bit on Windows 7 64bit Installation errors - oort - 08-20-2015

When trying to install the 64bit version of Wings3D 2.0, I get the following errors:

Error opening file for writing: C:\Program Files (x86)\wings3d_2.0\lib\wx-1.4\priv\erl_bl.dll

Error opening file for writing: C:\Program Files (x86)\wings3d_2.0\lib\wx-1.4\priv\wxe_driver.dll

Error opening file for writing: C:\Program Files (x86)\wings3d_2.0\bin\erl.exe

Error opening file for writing: C:\Program Files (x86)\wings3d_2.0\erts-0\bin\beam.smp.dll

Error opening file for writing: C:\Program Files (x86)\wings3d_2.0\erts-0\bin\erlexec.dll

Edit: Sorry, not really a bug. I was installing the 64 bit version after already having the 32 bit version installed. The installer was trying to install in the same folder. Maybe the 64 bit version should default to a different folder from the 32 bit version. Also Wings3d 2.0 is only listed once in the Windows Control Panel > Programs uninstall a program. Should the 32bit and 64 bit versions be listed so that they can be uninstalled separately?

Yes, this is partly operator error. Most people would only install either the 32 bit version or the 64 bit version, not both... Smile

I believe yes. They are two different installers and they should use the proper Program files folder.

The 64bits installer defaults to the correct directory i.e. program files without the (x86),
so I believe that it is Windows (or the installer) that tries to be smart and remember where
you installed it the previous time och re-uses that directory, which is wrong.

So I/we do it correct and someone else does it wrong.

dgud,

Yes, if I had paid attention to where the program was being installed I would not have had the install errors.. Smile

Should there be two listings (32bit and 64bit) for Wings3D, under Windows > Control Panel > Uninstall Programs, so that one could use both and then choose to uninstall one or the other???

Just asking because I do not know and I realize most if not all would either install the 32bit or the 64bit version and not both... Smile

Thanks,
oort

I do not even understand why you have both on the same computer?
I seriously thinking of ditching the 32b variant completely.

I am just testing the 32bit version because it was available and I knew that most would only test the 64bit version... Smile
