People use to forget about it and end up creating new edge loops with connect and slide them. You also can speed up your selections in that sample by selecting only the first edge (left) and the last one (right) and than use select edge ring [G] As it seems you did after select half of them. I still prefer the tried and tested methods of old just because it works like I want it to every time.
