Hi everybody - pistitom - 06-20-2014

Hello everyone, I'm Steve, from Hungary and just started to explore Wings3d a couple of weeks ago, found some ( more or less )useful videos on youtube, I love this program, but still a total newbie, so I'm far from complete models so far. Now, I know this is stupid, but I'd love to make a WV bug, but it's way too complex for a beginner like me ( that didn't stop me from trying) , so I was wondering, did anyone do that with Wings 3d ? Or does anyone know the steps to do a classic car? Modern cars have a bit simpler shape, but the classics...If this is a stupid question, I apologize. And thank You for any help.
Cheers to everybody !

pistitom,
Welcome to Wings3D and the forum. Just search for "box modeling car" videos and you will find something that will help you. The method will not be exactly the same for Wings3D but the principles are the same.

You may want to start with blueprints to help with the shape of the model. You will use the Image Plane command to set them up.

Here is a video of a vintage car I just found. It is not a tutorial but gives you an idea of what can be done with box modeling/subdivision surface modeling... Vintage Car Box Modeling

and another one.... Hexagon Box Modeling

Hello oort, thanks for the quick reply, useful videos, I'll definitely search for more, very few Wings 3d cars out there though...:-(
I use blueprints for reference, I almost finished a mercedes 190E but I noticed some very bad geometry on the front while working on the back, I forgot to deselect some vertices ( or selected them by accident - quite difficult with no transparent working mode) and I was way beyond the point of no return, got angry, deleted the whole stuff :-)))
That's why I want to be 100% sure the first steps are done correctly, because I do want to finish this ( started 5 times over with the hood and fenders, and all those curves...:-))))
I found a way today, I just hope I can go on continuing with this method.

What do You think ? Will this work ? I really have no idea if this is good to start with, will I be able to continue...

I could edit your post to fix the image preview, but will put it here:
