In my first Uv mapping attempts I struggle with texture seams.
If I use one texture that overlays all pieces of a cube than the edges have seams.
What am I doing wrong?

Sometimes you can move the pieces around in the mapper & get seams to match enough that you can use them but it depends on what kind of texture you're using. And it usually doesn't make a very neat map..
What I do is "create a texture" map in the mapper , then "export" it from the outliner window (save to a file) & open it in Photoshop to make the textures. You can use whatever 2d program that you want to make your textures. To create the texture map, just right click in the mapper window & you'll get a popup that does it for you.. Be sure to choose a size. I like using the 1024 x 1024 because it works better for me.
I hope I haven't confused you more then helped. I'm not the best when it comes to explaining how to do something.

Seams are where your model is Cut to fit on the Texture image. I can think of several ways a cube can be laid out, but I'm guessing you've cut all 6 sides into single polygons and auto-UV didn't arrange them in order. For a better UV on a cube, try cutting 3 edges on top, the same 3 edges on bottom, and one edge that connects one end, then use unfold in auto-UV. This should result in a T-shape.

Ravyn, I do it already in the way you describe for me.
I don't even know if there is an other way then exporting the map to a 2d program to get the textures on it?

Justanother1, I haven't figured out yet how to do the cuts myself instead for the 2 unfold options presented.

Thanks both of you, I'll keep trying ..

Here's a youtube video tutorial that I used when I was learning to map. There's 3 parts to it. This is the first one.

I used the free version of uvmapper for a long time before I learned how to use Wings for mapping. I'm no expert but I wouldn't use any other program now.
