Yes I agree. I have found that Intel is holding back gl extensions for some reason. If any of you have a link to the working driver sets that are currently working, this would be of great help. I have also noticed that certain games do not play well anymore with the updated driver sets for the 4500mhd. I used to be able to run COD MW2 with fairly decent frame rate, however, not since a certain update, and I cannot remember which one, I do remember that the last working driver set allowed you to manually set the amount of physical ram was set aside for graphics. Now the driver force sets it, and the options do not allow for such a manual change. If you ask me this was done so that they could no longer support this older chipset.

Frederick1337, I verified that you PC uses the chipset Intel GL40. Looking for the old drivers at Intel we only can find this one for Windows 7 (10/19/2011). The chipset is a little old (it was released in Jun/09) and the first drive was released for Windows XP.

So, if it worked someday, that is the driver you need to use to replaced the current.

You can also try to play with some settings and see what happens. Take a look at How To Access OpenGL* & DirectX* 3D Graphic Settings.

I use to not allow the OS update anything without my knowledge. Even when I had a NVidia card, I used to preserve a copy of the latest working driver because sometimes the latest one was stopping working on Windows.

Ok thanks. I'll play around with the system until I find the old working ones. If, and I stress if I find a working set, I'll post which sets work for me. Until that time I will continue to use Wings 3d on Debian with this machine, an operating system I prefer anyway. Not that windows isnt great, it just seems to break all the time on intel hardware. Sad

I should also mention that this laptop did require a bios update and a graphics driver update at one time. I will try all possible solutions. I found this Driver Revision: 15.17.7.64.2141 June 08, 2010 on my laptop which I think is the original after I updated the bios. I'll let you know what happens. The exact file extension for this driver was Win7Vista_64_15177.exe when I downloaded it.

I'm curious if there has been any progress on this issue. I'm having a similar problem with selected faces not highlighting properly. Face #0 on any given object will highlight no matter the actual selection. I know it's a problem with the Intel graphics card and/or drivers. I'm running on an HP G42 with Intel 4 series express mobile graphics card. I downloaded the most current driver (8.15.10.2869) directly from Intel, so that fix didn't work. Their site claims that the driver should be fully compatible with OpenGL up through 2.0, although clearly there is some kind of issue. Any suggestions?

RampantMongoose, that kind of problem is always related to something out of our control. There is other kind of problem related to edges drawing that also is "PC random", but that I could only noticed in that machines with a on-board Intel video. Take a look at this thread and in the last post I did.

I'm still using an Intel HD 4600 (i7) in my home PC and I don't have any of these issues, but at the company I work we have an Intel GMA HD (i5) which has that edge problem (not face). Undecided

I thought I would update you on any progress. I have had absolutely no luck in my attempts. If nothing else you can always install your favorite linux on a small partition of your hard drive. I went with Debian 7 using k desktop and wow! Wings 3d works perfect! Just migrate windows leaving a small partition open for the Linux Distro using - http://www.partition-tool.com/personal.htm

Sorry I could not have been more help. I'll be doing some serious research before buying another Intel based Laptop, that is for sure. Smile
