Hi!
I've been playing around with Wings3D and am trying to export my project into a .pov for POV-Ray, but I'm not seeing the option in the Export/Export Selected/Render menus. I've run the .tar plugin linked in this thread (wpc_pov-ertl8.0.tar), and while I get a 'This plugin was successfully installed' message, the option never appears in Wings3D. I've read through the thread and run it as an administrator with no luck, and I have POV-Ray installed and running correctly. I'm not sure if I'm missing something to be able to export in this format. I'm in a Windows 10 environment, running Wings3D 2.2.9 (stable) with POV-Ray 3.7 installed in the same directory. I tried another suggested rendering program, Kerkythea, which appeared in the Export and Render lists once it was installed, but I haven't had any luck with POV-Ray. Any assistance would be greatly appreciated!
Hi stsaby. Welcome.
Quote:but I'm not seeing the option in the Export/Export Selected/Render menus. All the render tools are a third part application, then in order to get then available in the Export menu you need to install them and got to the Edit->Plugins Preferences->POV-Ray (in your case) and set the path to the place where the executable was installed. After that you have to restart Wings3D in order to get the export option in the File->Export menu. Quote:I've run the .tar plugin linked in this thread (wpc_pov-ertl8.0.tar), and while I get a 'This plugin was successfully installed' message, the option never appears in Wings3D.This is an old thread which I started when I was building a lot of changes/improvements to the original POV-Ray plugin and wanted the users to help me with feedback. In fact you didn't need to install the plugin. The current v2.2.9 includes the plugin natively with all the additions I made. You have to remove the one you installed due possible incompatibility. To do that got to your user profile folder like this: C:\Users\stsaby\AppData\Local\Wings3D\2.2.9\plugins (it can has a import_export folder) and look for the wpc_pov.beam. I stated by using POV-Ray with the materials being set in Wings3D and tweaking the final touches in its standalone editor/program where I used options not available via Wings3D (mainly materials from its library). Then, later I moved to Kerkythea which works a little different since you get more options and better results by setting up the materials using its own program (in standalone). Unfraternally, after I upgrade my Windows to version 10 it stopped to work correctly after one update. Do you have previous experience with any of these renders? Otherwise, maybe you would consider to check the Yafaray. You are going to find more documentation/content about it here at the forum provided by the user oort (Render Tips).

Thank you micheus! The steps you outlined worked perfectly! I removed the old plugins and enabled the native POV-Ray plugin within Wings3D.
I don't have much experience with any of the render programs, I actually have been using them for an atypical purpose - trying to convert an icosahedral map projection to a rectangular projection for some RPG game maps. I followed this guide which used WIngs3D and POV-Ray, though I'm sure there are now some alternative methods out there. I've done some 3d modeling before, but haven't done much rendering, though I definitely want to explore more in the future. Thank you for the recommendation for some other programs to check out and some tips to help me on my journey!
