Doh! I've only just got that 'Wings' reference - and I pride myself on my sense of humour!
Packaging 'free' GPL, etc., software is (usually) legitimate (as in Tax Avoidance). It's possibly an honourable profession (as in Off-shore Tax Accountancy) and can be a useful service (see the linux man who used to advertise in Micromart magazine). If the GPLs, etc., are included untouched in the bundled software then they can't touch you for it. Where he's pushing his luck is with the nicked pix from the gallery. These probably do not have the stated permissions for re-use commercially. But unless there's explicit statements to say they can't be used, then not a lot of defence if you take offence. Thinks: do we (really) want a DO_NOT_NICK statement on the Wings 3D pages? By default, anything submitted to Sourceforge is assumed to comply with an “OSI-Approved License”. (Terms of Use). I can't believe I just checked that - after retiring I didn't want to see another IT contract, ever. Another thought: if he's nicked them from the Wings Gallery pages, then he's clearly visited/ing the site. He could be reading this forum as we rant .... |
