David,
Glad you are interested in working on the YafaRay plugin. I used to keep it updated but my free time is very limited lately... The version on my website is only for Wings 1.x.x builds and not Wings 2.x.x builds.
Micheus has been making all the latest changes for us. The source code is included with the latest Wings3D 2.x.x source code. It is under the same license as Wings3D, since it is part of the Wings3D source code.
I noticed today that you have released the new YafaRay v.3.0.0 beta. I hope to try it soon. I still hope you will add SSS to your build of YafaRay.
Edit: P.S. I have tried to maintain compatibility with each new release of the plugin and Micheus has continued to do so. A scene that works with an older version of the plugin will work with the newest version of the plugin. That way, example files or any persons files do not have to be modified to work with a new version of the plugin. This has not been completely possible but every attempt was made to do so. I hope you can do the same. There are several example files at the bottom of my Wings3D page.
Thanks,
oort
