It shouldn't happen just because you changed your version. What happens is that if you were using a "very" old version of Wings3D - in that case - the options would be present even if you didn't have the render software installed and configured in plugin's preferences.
So, take a look at the Edit->Plug-in Preferences menu and look for the render option you intend to use. In the dialog, check if the Executable field is filled with a correct program and path.
If everything is right and you still have the problem please let us to know. Attach your preferences.txt file and tell us about which render app are you trying to use.
