I saw the image and it says me that your model was loaded.
Now, what I can think about is related to scale (it's size). It can be imported so tiny that it's a "dot" on screen or bigger that the camera is "inside of it".
You can check this theory by using the frame command.
Be sure to get everything selected by using Select->All [CTRL]+[A] and then View->Frame Selected [SHIFT]+[A]. (I'm in doubt about the shortcut, so check them via main menu - top one)
If you see your model, take a look at the bottom-right corner in geometry window to see the scale at that moment.
By being scaling your model in the importer dialog would explain this behaviour happening only for .obj file and not other formats.
You can check in the importer if that scale is different of 1 which is the default.
And yeah, Wings3D uses Vcredist, which you can replace/update it by reinstalling Wings3D and in the dialog you mark the box related to Microsoft... that should be uncheck at this moment since you already have it installed.
