It did give rise to an idea : Move Normal (Relative/Proportional).
If you want to move normal 3 units ... the 3 will be tweeked by the Ne = average edge length in neighborhood divided by Max edge length. 3 * Ne/Max.
I don't think I have this yet ... but would help keep cage rods smaller at tip of shell.
