Sometimes you can move the pieces around in the mapper & get seams to match enough that you can use them but it depends on what kind of texture you're using. And it usually doesn't make a very neat map..
What I do is "create a texture" map in the mapper , then "export" it from the outliner window (save to a file) & open it in Photoshop to make the textures. You can use whatever 2d program that you want to make your textures. To create the texture map, just right click in the mapper window & you'll get a popup that does it for you.. Be sure to choose a size. I like using the 1024 x 1024 because it works better for me.
