Sorry about not link the video directly before. I was answering you from my wife's tablet and I hate it for that.
The first video you should find using those words should be the one linked by Arg Arg. It's one the best I think - if you can watch both (part 1 and 2).
Wings3d seems to expect you use one UVmapped texture for each object. So, starting from multiples textures and join them is easier (and you will see how to do this in that videos), but having one object break it in many textured materials I'm not sure.
I already did that, but with some "hard" work. Anyway, I'm not a expert, so I can have missing something to run that operation. Maybe any of our other colleagues here can help with this. Let listen them about that.
