Sorry, I can't remember what the option is called, but it's something like that.
Basically, I used to do right click move along a specified vector, click on vertex, and then right click on the next vertex to define the vector. Now however, I can't do that, and I need to click on both vertices, and then right click.
I think the option used to be right click temporary selection or something like that, but I can't find the option any more.
I just reinstalled my system, and I guess I was using a much older version. I've downloaded 1.4.1 in order to get the functionality back, but I feel like I must be missing something. I used to use wings back before that was an option, but once it was added, it was amazing for the smoothness of my workflow. I really hope it hasn't been taken out, and I'm just missing something.
